Unsolved Wonders

Short short Story
Fiction diamond eyes
By Kathy Reyna

It was the middle of winter in Hebron, Indiana.  2000 was the year. A millenia that would change the world.  Astrid had just turned 20, and her sister and her were graduating highschool at Highland, High.

Sitting in a small trailer was Gerald.  He lived in Hebron, where ashtrays piled up with cigarette butts.  With piercing baby blue eyes and yellow hair that lit up in the sun light shining through the day time playground.

Astrid fell in love with Gerald and played with him after school. They often did homework together and played music on the flat part of her rooftop where the sun tanned her pale white skin.  She couldn't bare to be apart from him and pretended to live with him by bringing her sleeping bag and napping there at his little trailers bedroom where she dreamed of them together with a family and a big dog named Dolly.

Astrid took dance and singing classes and became pregnant with Geralds first son, Gerald Jr. And she bought a house.  Her dad bought the house for her and Gerald Jr.  When he became terminally 'ill and was dying from a rare disease the doctors could not cure.

It was 2001, a milestone as Astrid turning 21, and planning her marriage to Gerald Hemmington, a very industrial and prestigious young man who lived his son and worked for his father an actor.  She hit a tree with a co worker, Coglhin, and suffered a concussion.  She couldnt tell the day or year.  He often researched and followed the actors guild for Astrid too.  Her singing has grown beautifully and she was winning awards and invited to aristocratic events.

Chapter 2
Transients

Astrid spent time walking and thinking over all her choices with great wonder.  Gerald Jr. turned 1 years old and he barely could spend time with his father.  His father was I'll with the same sickness as his father.  He continued to seek treatment and work at the mill in Whiting, and Hammond, IN.

Astrid had a daughter in the meantime and named her Geraldine after her father. They all went sledding in the winter, and jet skiing in the summers on Lake Michigan along with finishing their summers at the Lake County Fair grounds where Astrid enjoyed Wisconsin cheese, and freshly squeezed lemonade.

Her sister often joined her and they promised to stay home if the weather was too hot.  Astrid missed the Whiting parades called the comic book one and the peorgi fest.  August fest and the corn fest were on the way.  She would take the children to all the fests before fall began to show her colors of orange, brown, yellow, and red on leaves coming down in transformation of winter.  It wasn't very long before winter of 2001, and being in her early 20s she waited to become a woman obsessed with wisdom and maturity.

Chapter Three
Mad Maiden

Often in admiration of others criticisms of her being naive and gullible Astrid would study harder, pray longer, and exercise daily while skipping on galas, weddings, funerals, and parties of all kinds to focus on what maturity and responsibility entailed for her entitlement of pleasing authorities. She often thought about what her masters degree could be in, psychology, law, or acting .

Movie nights turned into long and boring times unless the movie was good.  There wasn't much to do.  Art festivals and eating festival foods were the funnest for Astrid.

It was October, 2001, a month after the new York twin towers tragically were blown up.  Many families lost loved ones in the attack when planes were hijacked and flown into the buildings.

Astrid and her sister were watching the war attack on television at mom and dads, and bring very young 21, and Bianca her younger sister 19, seemed to understand very little and the affects 9-11 would have on them.

Astrid went to a Halloween party on a date, and met up with co-workers after a wedding reception also, and the night was long.  Everyone seemed close and caring.  It was a night of celebration.  Astrid thought about here parents, and her night out made her feel guilty and irresponsible as the night grew later.

It wasn't until 2am that police officer came to her parents front door to let them know Astrid was in a car accident and was picked up by ambulance with a ruptured deodium, and a subdural hematoma in her brain.  Which was a internal bleed pushing her brain and had to be suctioned out along with closing the skull with a titanium alloy shunt.

Astrid mom stayed with her, and after two weeks she went home.  All her life was supported and we'll nurtured flourishing day to day because of mom and dad's deep love.  Her family took care of Astrid through the very devastating car accident.

She went to college at the Indiana University went on to make a good life for herself graduating with a bachelor's degree, and went to work in Chicago in 2005 until 2013.   The millenia was too much for a young America, still the youngest country in the world.  Supplying all for other country debts and our soldiers standing on the front lines to protect our country and allies.  Education. Knowledge. Study.

It goes on and on all the world growing and transforming.  Gerald raising his children with Astrid found that less is more.  Little appetites, little ears, and eyes to nourish and love.  Feeding with little bites, gently tucking in to say good night.  She sat and watched movies with Gerald.  It felt precious the time together they shared house sitting.  Gerald smoked for years and promised to stop when their son was born.
To quit smoking, and spending money on frivolous things such as making trips to the store for cigarettes and to start a wholesome life style with Astrid was his goal.

The End

Mysteries Beyond Forgetting

Humans go on to find wisdom and fight for love.  What goes on in the plans and prepared hearts of the careless and angry?  Those who shove off their dreams or give up.  Then there are those who continue to march to the beat of their dreams as they grow.  I don't know, what a forgetful mystery of means to an end.  What? Hope.  A strong relevant hope that what is retained or restrained in for Gods Glory alone.  What a practice of value in that that brings relief and comfort while times keep us creating, mistaking, and reiterating for lasting virtues of patience, perseverance, and all the other fruits of the Spirit.

Petty trifles and frivolous trivia go a long way and before we know it we know it.  We knew it all along as we put that extra bite of a cookie into our mouth and the scale tips to 185.
