21 5 in 5 ft 120 lb dark brown eyes and hair . . Living on campus was a good plan since I didn't drive. Buses were hard to catch, and classes and work in the cafeteria were next door. It wasn't easy to find the roommate of perfection. Something happened usually quite embarrassing to break the ice, for me it was answering the door in my bathrobe to my new roommates mom and dad.
I went to friends off campus and it was good too to be more aquainted with how to live on your own in the future. I was used to living at home where hot meals and warm beds were available all the time.
Meal cards and bikes became major resources for daily survival and success. Getting to class was more than half the battle. It was ja long time ago and still a wonderful time of meeting new people some friends from afar working in England, or India.
Getting used to waking up on,our own without parent's to wake you or a sibling to cook you when you need to get in th shower instead there was Co ed bathrooms and elevators in hallways. This was not home.
Breakfast came from powdered eggs and frozen hash browns. Students did get fresh fruit and vegetables and plenty of homestead cooking of meat loaf or roasted chicken. The on campus book stores and food services were equipted with many supplies for class such as pencils, notebooks, coffee mugs, snacks such as granola, cereal, or frozen treats
Artificial flavorings instead of homemade from scratch dinners and desserts if you had time. The jello and donuts were good, and the China man food cooked on the spot in a wok. I loved the southern food too.
And to study well you need a balanced meal, many of them working your tail off with finals, last minute homework readings and or crazy math formulas to solve with groups or solo at your local library or study hall.
At first I couldn't adjust and had to come home to Chicago to pick up my grades which I did and went back during the next semester and this happened once around my freshman year and was determined to raise my GPA after finding out it wasn't high enough to be in the major I first started.
Changing majors was very difficult yet i was diligently ready to graduate and I did with a bachelor's of science in public affairs in 2003. We were given career development courses and the career center was available to test you and get you where you wanted to be with a healthy start to a new career.
Reaching out to professors with hundreds of students and other students with higher grades was not easy, yet note taking and flash cards, high lighters and group studies were very influential and I've followed these forms of study even passed my college years.
The dormatories all have a food and beverage stop with tables for quiet study time. I applied and worked for many food places for meal points at minimum wage which was four bucks aND a couple quarters. There was a gym I'd work put to and swam once in while learning to use the equipment there. 15 years later I still use gym equipment for muscle strengthening and whole body wellness.
And still work from food joint to food joint while my customer service skills grow from year to year as I develop and transform by age my choices to switch career paths engage and are embraced while minI'm wage increased up to seven and a few quarters.
I enjoyed walking through the Union, using its theatre with a friend, and shopping in their stores. Didn't attend sports games, or India five but once and spent tail gating parties and downtown time homesick or too busy for spending money or dancing to a cool band when I had alot of homework.
The career development center is a good place to gear up for a job after college. Spending time there showed me jobs all over in every kind of field of study. There was so many jobs to chose from and dreams to achieve I have since been determined to dedication and diligence for the path of the least resistant without short cuts in temporary office jobs to hospitality jobs as all kinds of special events needs persisted for servers, bar tenders, hosts, or ushers were needed.
I can feel I.U. education on the train. Riding my bike, in traffic are reminders of the triton symbol for I.U.. a pride of an alumni maybe. Embracing time, and space has produced success and feelings of achievement in all I.U. repertoire most times. Moments and flashbacks, bring utter accomplishment.
I lost my bike. It was stolen, and my wallet for the same reason. Lost my boyfriend in the end of graduation to the success hype and career craze. Lost my cool when I was caught drinking a little at a house party and was slapped with a pretty high ticket of three hundred dollars for u underage drinking left and deserted by who I thought were the closest friends.
The gorgeous environment of flowers, and hilly side walks surrounded by streams and trees made the daily walks around campus and bike rides a sight of soRe eyes. I got lucky if Jen or Justin my northwest Indiana friends could find time from work or homework to hang out, get a bite or drink.
It all flew by and more and more classes piled up for credit hours and a good GPA.
The Union was a large building with a hotel and cemetery. The Union occupied a bowling alley, cash Food court, theatre, and ceremonial banquet rooms. Enchanting. Intriguingly occupied by the most oustanding of God's Creations scupltures or quotes such as Aristotle, and Platos.
Networking is very important, keeping currant with news, and praying for your classmates, as well as your families. Mom visited every weekend. She put out my fires I never could logicall reason with love. Such as being rejected by jobs, and boyfriends, and flunking a class.
